I need a serious detox after the holidays! And what better way to get your greens in than with a delicious, fresh smoothie. I love making smoothies in the morning to jump start my day and get a good dose of fruits and veggies in.
My husband always gives me a weird look when I make this green smoothie, hence the name the Green Monster. But don’t worry, you don’t even taste the spinach in this one. A little bit of fruit goes a long way and makes this smoothly delectably sweet.
This recipe can be easily adaptable for whatever you on hand (any fruit you have in the freezer can be subbed in for the mango, use whatever milk you typically prefer, or swap frozen kale for the spinach). Instead of throwing away bananas that I don’t eat that week, I peel them and wrap them whole in cellophane and toss them in the freezer to use in smoothies later on. I prefer frozen spinach over fresh because you can really pack in more spinach using the frozen kind, but honestly anything will do here! This happens to be my go-to recipe because I always have these ingredients on hand.
I also love to top this smoothie with some granola, fresh fruit or even chia seeds to add some additional crunch, color and fiber.
Serves: 1 smoothie
3/4 cup almond milk
1 frozen banana cut into slices
1/2 cup frozen chopped spinach
1/4 cup frozen mango chunks
Optional: Toppings such as granola and fresh berries
- Blend all ingredients together in blender until well combined.
- Top with optional toppings.
